51st Easter Jeep Safari - Behind the Rocks Trail

My wife Laura and I brought our kids out West for our first trip Jeeping out in Moab, Utah for the 51st Easter Jeep Safari.  We had our friends at Unlimited Offroad Centers out of Fenton, MI who has  built all of our rigs tow our rig to Moab and we flew out to Grand Junction, Colorado.  From there we rented a vehicle and drove to Moab, Utah which took about 1 hr 45 min.  We were given some advice by someone on the plane to take I-70 West to US-128 into Moab.  It was a great drive as it was very scenic.  Just take exit 214 towards Citsco and enjoy the scenery.

These photos were from the "Behind the Rocks" trail out in Moab.  We followed our Jeeping buddy "John" who was driving this nice looking Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and just headed to the trail on Tuesday, April 11, 2017.  We ran into a small group of maybe 7 or 8 rigs in front of us and had a larger group behind us that were running the trail as part of the Warn event.  Thankfully we didn't have the larger group catch up to us at all.

It was a beautiful day to be out on the trails with our Jeeping friends.  There were multiple obstacles that were challenging that if not done correctly could put a rig either on it's side or on it's roof.  Thankfully we just enjoyed our day and finished the trail without any major damage.  John's Rubicon bent up it's tail hitch on the obstacle above which is called "White Knuckle".  The final drop is about between 6 to 7ft tall and the short wheel base rigs could easily get into trouble if not done correctly.  The advice that was given to me was just turn on the front locker, turn the rear one off.  As soon as you begin the drop that once the wheels touch the bottom to hit the gas to make it roll forward to keep you from flipping over.  Worked like a charm in our stretched 2002 Jeep Wrangler TJ that we call the "Green Beast"!

The link above are the web based photos which will be smaller in size.  If I took a photo of your rig on this run and would like the larger file size photo just send me an e-mail
